Kantar Media's Compete Releases Search Market Share Data for May 2011

- Kantar Media's Compete today released its search
market share data for May 2011 based on the search behavior of the
company's panel of more than two million U.S.-based internet users.
With the exception of AOL, which remained flat, all five major engines
saw minor month-over-month (M-O-M) increases in the number of unique
visitors from April to May.
Among notable findings for May:
- Search query volume rose slightly in May (up 2.5 percent from April), driving small shifts in search market share.
- Google's share of the search market declined by 0.2ppts, although its query volume increased by 2.3 perce
- While Microsoft's share of the search market decreased by 0.1ppt, Yahoo!'s 0.5ppt growth generated an M-O-M boost for Bing Powered engines.
- Yahoo! experienced the
largest growth in queries, driving a 0.5ppt M-O-M increase in share.
